Just when you thought it was impossible to be any more outrageous, Lady GaGa has gone further than ever with her latest shocking outfit.
The Poker Face singer has posed in a bikini made entirely of red meat for a magazine cover, prompting a furious response from animal rights campaigners.
Controversial: Lady Gaga has angered animal rights campaigners by posing in a raw meat 'bikini' on the cover of Japanese Men's Vogue magazine
On the cover of Japanese Men’s Vogue she poses with one hand on her hip and another on her head with what appears to be a steak under it.
The ‘bikini’ is strung together from other cuts of red meat as bright as her red lipstick that are draped strategically over her naked body.
‘Lady Gaga's job is to do outlandish things, and this certainly qualifies as outlandish because meat is something you want to avoid putting on or in your body,’ said Ingrid Newkirk, president of animal rights campaign group PETA.
‘No matter how beautifully it is presented, flesh from a tortured animal is flesh from a tortured animal.
‘Meat represents bloody violence and suffering, so if that's the look they were going for—they achieved it.’
Gaga’s habit of wearing bizarre outfits is perhaps more legendary than her chart success.
From the excessively high shoulder pads to the warped wedding dresses and an entire outfit made of Kermit the Frog toys, she is never afraid to defy convention or, as appears here, good taste.
Gaga added a further layer of mystique to her personality in the interview by apparently posing for photographs inside as a man.
Painfully thin: A new book claims the singer has been starving herself to fit into her skimpy stage outfits
In the accompanying interview Jo Calderone, who appears to be her new alter-ego, claims to be a friend and occasional lover to the star, 24, even if the pictures very much look like Gaga herself.
Italian mechanic ‘Jo’ tells of how ‘beautiful, funny and interesting’ Gaga is and claims they met on a photo shoot.
‘I was a little nervous for Nick Knight (the photographer) to start shooting,’ Jo says.
‘She said, ‘Don't be baby, you were born this way’. I took her out after. The rest is private.’
Originally from Sicily, Jo says he wants to own his own car shop and ‘have a bunch of my own ‘muscle’ cars’ or take some pictures if he can afford it.
Adding fuel to the debate was a Twitter feed started by a Jo Calderone the day the magazine came out.
The latest post reads: ‘I am a man. I am a human being. I am me. And I was Born This Way.’
Gaga observers have also noted that Joanna is an abbreviation of her middle name, Joanna.
The male alter-ego, if indeed it is her, would be a new twist even by her standards.
A new book recently claimed that Gaga was starving herself to fit into her stage outfits.
Her former tour manager David Ciemny said she collapsed six times last year due to her her extreme dieting.
The Oscar-winning star's sleek 1920s-style bob and elfin look are a far cry from the casual mum-about-town style she sports when out and about with two-year-old daughter Nahla.

Who's that girl? Halle Berry sports a flapper bob and a sleek elfin look in new issue of Vogue
In the accompanying interview Berry is candid about her break up earlier this year from former partner Gabriel Aubry and says she is optimistic about finding love in the future.
She told interview Jonathan Van Meter, 'I'm not done with love, but I refuse to settle.
'I am a hopeless romantic. And I won't stop till I get it right.'
Hopeless romantic: Halle Berry hasn't given up on love, despite her breakup with model Gabriel Aubry earlier this year
Berry and Aubrey, 33, were together for 4 years and had daughter Nahla, 2, in 2008.
Of the breakup she said:'It’s just that you realise you are not meant to go the distance with everybody.
'We were meant to bring this amazing little person into the world. And I think that’s why we came together. And because of that, we are going to be together forever, all three of us. We are a family until we are not here any more.'
She continued, 'We have always been friends, we’re still friends, we love each other very much, and we both share the love of our lives. And we are both 100 percent committed to being the best parents we can be.
'And while it was not a love connection for us, he was absolutely the right person to have this child with because she is going to have an amazing father.'

Breaking her silence: this was Berry's first interview for three years
Despite the breakdown of the relationship, Berry insists that the couple's split was amicable.
'By the time it hit the papers – full of rumours and lies, with people having to make up problems between us – Gabriel and I had long dealt with it. We were done. And we were on a good foot, and we had decided what we were going to do for Nahla, and we were able to say, 'This will pass."'
Still a family: Berry, says that she, Aubry and Nahla, pictured here at Disneyland earlier this year, will always be 'together forever'
The Monster's Ball star, 43, is the first African-American woman to appear on the cover of the iconic magazine's September issue, which is considered in fashion circles to be the most important issue of the year.
The actress has taken something of a hiatus from the public eye with this being her first magazine interview for three years, in which she explains, 'I was burned-out with having other people tell the story about me that they wanted to tell. I told my publicist, "I’m not going to talk any more. I’m just going to live my life and be who I am."'
She did, however, make an exception for Vogue's September issue.
'What that means for a woman of colour and what that means in the fashion world, what that means to pop culture, there was no way I could say, "No I’m not going to be on the biggest issue of the year."'
