Hollywood actress Julianne Moore, who celebrates her 50th birthday on Friday, is among the models who feature in this year's famous Pirelli Calendar.

The black and white limited edition calendar has the theme of mythology and features Moore as Hera, the Greek goddess of marriage and for the first time also features men.

The Oscar nominated actress is the star of critically acclaimed The Kids are Alright and the striking pictures come just months after she posed, semi naked, for jewellery designer Bulgari.

In fact the campaign, in which her modesty is protected by strategically placed lion cubs, was deemed to risque for the city of Venice and removed after complaints.

Moore is joined in the Pirelli calendar, which is also simply known as The Cal, by the Dutch model Lara Stone, the wife of British comedian David Walliams, who is portrayed as the goddess of beauty, Aphrodite.

The Pirelli calendar has been going for more than 40 years and is a limited edition publication given to special VIPs only - Prince Andrew is a regular recipient.

In the past supermodel Kate Moss has also appeared, while four years ago screen legend Sophie Loren made history when she posed for the calendar at the ripe age of 72.

The latest calendar was unveiled in Moscow and was put together by designer Karl Lagerfeld with the pictures being taken in the Paris studio of Chanel earlier this year.

Four men also feature in the calendar and they are wearing codpieces to protect their modesty and include Lagerfeld's right hand man Baptiste Giacobini.

Lagerfeld said he had chosen the theme of Greek mythology because he had read the classic sagas such as Homer's Iliad as a child and added: 'I'm a visual version of Homer. I did it with my camera instead of with my pen.'

Lagerfeld stressed at the presentation that he steered away from any sleazy content and did not pressure models to do risque poses and said: 'I'm not a dirty old man.

'They know they can trust me. I would never do something not absolutely correct. There was no danger, no sleaziness,' he said adding that Moore was a 'dear friend'.

Lagefeld also said: 'Nobody believes in these gods anymore but the girls in the Pirelli calendar are the goddesses of today.'

American model Erin Wasson, best known as the face of Maybelline cosmetics, insisted the shots were arty: 'It's less like a calendar and more like a form of art.

Italian model Bianca Balti who also features said: 'I think for a model the best thing is to be in a book or in the Pirelli calendar.

'It's the only nice calendar. In Italy there are so many vulgar calendars, like very sexy but Pirelli is just about art and beauty.'

Just three months after giving birth and Danielle Lloyd is seen here posing confidently in a series of racy shots for a new calendar.

The 26-year-old model, who has a four-month-old son Archie with footballer Jamie O'Hara, has shed more than two stone in the past couple of months.

She took part in this calendar shoot just a few weeks ago, showing off the results of her post-baby fitness regime.

This selection of photos shows the reality star strutting around in a plunging swimsuit in one frame, while in another she seductively stares into the camera, wearing an open white shirt.

Danielle has gone on a healthy eating programme and undertaken exercise to get back in shape.

She specifically decided against a crash diet, instead enlisting the help of former England rugby star turned personal trainer Paul Sampson, husband of presenter Kirsty Gallacher.

But motherhood has also proved a struggle for Danielle, who called off her wedding to Tottenham Hotspur star O'Hara last month.

Last week the couple put on a united front and were spotted heading into the Momo restaurant in central London.

Earlier they had gone to see the musical Thriller, which celebrates the life and career of the late pop superstar Michael Jackson.

The couple left Archie at home as they enjoyed some quality time together and possibly talked through their recent woes.

The pair had a whirlwind romance and got engaged seven months after they met when Danielle became pregnant.

Danielle's spokeswoman said at the time: 'Like any young couple with a newborn baby, Danielle and Jamie have seen how easy the pressures of parenthood can affect a relationship.

'With this in mind, they have decided to postpone their wedding next year and concentrate on raising Archie and working hard on their respective careers.

'They are very much in love and want to make things work.'

Danielle Lineker is set to join the record breaking stage show Calendar Girls.

The wife of football legend Gary will make her stage debut when the show launches at the Bristol Hippodrome in January for its 2011 tour.

The Welsh model and former Loose Women panelist, who also goes by her maiden name Danielle Bux, is seen posing naked with the ensemble cast.

The show's box offices gross recently hit a combined total of £21 million across the country.

It has now surpassed the box office takings of the hugely successful 2003 Calendar Girls film which starred Helen Mirren and Julie Walters, and is the most successful play ever to tour the UK.

Lineker will play Elaine in the show, and will be joined by Loose Woman Lynda Bellingham, Liverpudlian Jennifer Ellison, Bernie Nolan and Lisa Riley amongst others.

Tim Firth’s adaptation of Calendar Girls tells the real-life story of the members of a Yorkshire chapter of the Women’s Institute who decide to pose nude for a charity calendar.

The show's producers have also hinted that 2011 will potentially be the production's final tour.

After giving birth to son Bobby five months ago, Jennifer Ellison was under pressure to lose her baby weight.

But on stage in Cardiff on Tuesday, the actress went one better than most celebrity mothers as she bared all in the new production of Calendar Girls.

The 27-year-old follows in the footsteps of Kelly Brook, Gemma Atkinson and Jerry Hall by playing trophy wife Celia, aka Miss September, in the latest cast change of the touring production.

Wearing nothing but a pair of strategically placed buns to cover her famously ample cleavage, Ellison performed to a sell-out crowd at the Wales Millennium Centre.

The Hell's Kitchen winner is being accompanied by her baby son Bobby as she brings the touring production to Llandudno, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Inverness, Edinburgh and Liverpool over the next two months.

When she accepted the part, Ellison admitted she thought she had one of the only female roles which didn't involve disrobing.

She said: 'I thought I was playing the make-up artist, who doesn't strip.

Talking about going nude, she explained: 'It's a bit scary but I'm not nervous about it.'

Ellison's opening night comes after she shifted three stone of baby weight in time for her debut in Calendar Girls.

The former Brookside actress admitted she went up five dress sizes while pregnant with her first child Bobby, who was born in February.

Due to a traumatic birth – a 92-hour labour followed by a Caesarean – she had to wait six weeks until she could exercise. After that she started Pilates moves, running and boxing with a personal trainer.

Speaking to Closer magazine earlier this month, she said: 'I was a size 8 when I fell pregnant and a size 18 after – I just ballooned. I ate what I wanted and didn’t exercise, so of course I put on weight. I put on 4st. I was like a hippo!'

'I’ve lost 3st thanks to my Closer diet and workouts – and I feel great. I lost this weight the old-fashioned way – a healthy diet and exercise.'

Joining Ellison in the new cast change is former Coronation Street stars Bruno Langley and Denise Black, ex-Hollyoaks actress Miklya Dodd and Hi-De-Hi star Ruth Madoc.
