Celebrity have favoured the little black dress for red carpet events for years, but many have recently been steering away from the wardrobe staple for fear of it being regarded 'boring' or 'safe'.

But neither of those descriptions could have been applied to Cristiano Ronaldo's girlfriend Irina Shayk last night.

The 24-year-old Russian model ensured she was the centre of attention at the 5th Top Glamour Fashion Awards in Madrid, Spain, as she took to the red carpet in an incredibly low-cut black dress.

The sexy ensemble, which also featured a high split on the thigh, showed off Irina's curves to perfection, and she complemented the outfit with a pair of strappy black sandals and silver earrings.

Irina later met up with Real Madrid forward Ronaldo, who she has been dating since January, who gave the awards a miss as he is currently preparing for a game against Sporting Gijon in Spain on Sunday.

It's rare that Irina, who is a hugely successful star in the modelling industry, and world-famous sportsman Ronaldo are ever in the same country together.

But when they do meet up, it is often to be in New York, where Irina recently purchased a $1.96 million one-bedroom in New York's posh 166 Perry Street.

The 2,500-square-foot condo has wide plank-oak flooring, floor-to-ceiling windows and 12-foot ceilings.

It also has a master suite accessible through a 10-foot sliding-glass pocket door, as well as a master bath with radiant heating and a 'custom-designed sculpted Corian vanity, sink and shower'.

Also at the fashion event in Madrid last night was fashionista Olivia Palermo, who shot to fame when she appeared alongside Whitney Port in MTV reality show The City.

And despite The City having recently been cancelled, Olivia insists she has 'moved on' and is forging a successful career for herself as one of the most fashion-forward young stars in the industry.

She said recently: 'It's been a wonderful time for me because I've been able to focus on a lot of other projects that I didn't have time for.

'Hopefully I'll be releasing a few things in the spring.'

But Cristiano Ronaldo's girlfriend Irina Shayk proves exactly why she is well-known in her own right as she shows off her talents in the pages of this month's GQ magazine.

The 24-year-old model has posed for a series of stunning photographs in the magazine, and displays her enviable figure in a variety of revealing sheer outfits.

However, Irina, who has been dating Ronaldo since early this year, made a shock confession in the accompanying interview by admitting that despite her boyfriend being a world-famous sportsman, she's not actually a fan of football.

While Irina wouldn't talk about her relationship with the 25-year-old footballer, she laughed: 'I'm not a fan of soccer, for sure not.'

Her profile has risen somewhat since it emerged that boyfriend Ronaldo has become the father of a baby boy. The soccer star made the extraordinary announcement on his Facebook page last month, and confirmed he would bring up the child without the unnamed mother.

It is unclear how much Irina will be involved with the child, and she has not commented publicly on the affair.

Since starting in the modelling industry in 2005, Irina has appeared in Sports Illustrated magazine's swimsuit edition, as well as modelling for lingerie company Victoria's Secret.

However, Irina, who was born in Yemanzhelinsk, Russia, said it wasn't an easy decision for her to move to New York and follow her dream.

She said: 'We didn't even have fashion magazines there.'

In a separate interview recently, Irina described Yemanzhelinsk, which has a population of 30,000, as 'a very small town, almost a village.'

She added: 'We have many forests around it, so one can enjoy pure air and beautiful nature around.

'On the square in the middle of the town there is a statue of swan - the symbol of the town. One can visit the coal mines, and that’s it, nothing else to see!'

Irina also described how she was discovered, and what encouraged her to try to make it as a model.

She said: 'It was by pure chance. My mother saw an ad on a bus stop and I came to a local beauty school accompanying my older sister.

'I was noticed by a person from a local model agency and he proposed that I participate in a beauty contest Miss Chelyabinsk.

'I never thought of a career of as a model and it was a total surprise for me when I won the contest and became Miss Chelyabinsk. Then I started modelling in Paris.'
